Agent Profile: Debbie McGarrity

Over the course of her career, Debbie McGarrity has worn many hats: Realtor, childcare entrepreneur, publicity chairperson, media salesperson and organizer for charitable events.

“Community is something that I have always cared about, and real estate allows me to marry that to my pragmatic business sensibility,” she explained.

McGarrity has been affiliated with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Greenwich since 2018. She was drawn to Berkshire Hathaway because of the company’s financial strength and strong business ethics, as promulgated by its founder Warren Buffet. Many people associate this company’s name with “smart decisions, investing and trust”. McGarrity felt she would fit in well at Berkshire Hathaway because, “The agents there have the utmost integrity and work together as a team,” she said.

Having been a realtor for over 17 years—and in sales over the course of the past 40 years—McGarrity has honed her skills in client advocacy and negotiation. She prides herself on her committed professional approach and tenacity on behalf of her clients.

“My clients are my top priorities, and my goal is to make the process as gratifying and stress-free as possible for them,” she vowed.

She writes a quarterly blog on Greenwich single family market statistics, and leverages Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn to stay in touch with and expand her client base. 

McGarrity started her career selling TV airtime locally in Philadelphia and graduated to representing a list of local ABC affiliates and selling their airtime to a list of New York City advertising agencies. McGarrity then co-founded Family Extensions, Inc., a nanny placement service that operated across Westchester and Fairfield Counties for 20 years.

A 33-year resident of Greenwich, McGarrity married Tom, a Greenwich native, and raised 3 children here. She has been publicity chairperson for two public elementary schools in town also for a Greenwich-based charity called Dana’s Angels Research Trust. She was also involved with a non-profit group, organizing theater productions in several Greenwich public schools for 20 years. McGarrity is a cum laude graduate of Lehigh University.
